Week In Review - Week ending April 14, 2012
I’m happy to report that after another busy week with the bees the kids and I had a fun weekend. I did a little bit of bee stuff and no house work so I could spend some quality time with the kids. We went to a Strawberry Festival and the beach.(I can’t post any pictures from the beach for my camera’s card is corrupted, again. I think it is time to send the Nikon in for service. I don’t know what I’m going to do without a camera!) Unfortunately, Dad had to miss out on the fun while he worked and went on the road to pick-up some equipment.
We started the week out in Tennessee ending our time with a large family celebration. (It was crazy getting away this time of year, but we’re glad we pulled it off.) We delivered a nuc and picked up a load of jars and bottles for our honey sales.
The first part of the week we pulled frames of brood from production colonies to make nucs for an order of special queens. We continued to add honey supers, graft, add queen cells to mating nucs, graded the mating nucs, bottled honey, delivered honey and worked on the logistics of extracting honey this season.
The kids helped out in the queen yard (which is always cute). And, the end of the week was wrapped-up with our bee presentation to our daughter’s Kindergarten class.
Whew, off to a new week with a load of vitamin D!
